Cipher Pharmaceuticals Provides Update on Absorica Brand Extension Program with Sun Pharmaceutical

OAKVILLE, ON, Feb. 6, 2020 /CNW/ - Cipher Pharmaceuticals Inc. (TSX:CPH) ("Cipher" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. ("Sun Pharma"), the Company's U.S. marketing partner for Absorica®, has launched ABSORICA LD (isotretinoin) capsules in the U.S for the management of severe recalcitrant nodular acne in patients 12 years of age and older.

In August 2008, Cipher granted Sun Pharma the exclusive right to market, sell and distribute Absorica in the United States. Cipher later amended this distribution and supply agreement (the "Amendment") in July 2018. The Amendment included, among several changes:

  • The ability for Sun Pharma to launch new isotretinoin products developed by or on behalf of Sun Pharma in the U.S. prior to the expiration of the agreement in November 2022;

  • Expanded the agreement to include a royalty payable to Cipher until December 2024 based on U.S. net sales from Sun Pharma's isotretinoin product portfolio; and

"We are pleased to see Sun Pharma bring this new and enhanced formulation of Absorica to the market. In addition to the benefits this provides to the patient population, we are hopeful this will have a positive effect on our future revenue stream on this product," said Craig Mull, Interim CEO of Cipher.
